About

The studio

Studio Kresal was founded to ask what glass can do when it is not asked to be a window.

The philosophy of the studio sits between two things that are usually held apart: craft tradition, and the willingness to break it. Every piece is made in a small workshop, by hand, in a process that is slow and unforgiving — glass does not allow a second attempt. What comes out of it is meant to last far longer than the conversation about it.

Sara Kresal

Sara Kresal

Sara Kresal is an interior designer from Ljubljana. She trained in interior design, but found her real subject in individual objects — where form, precision and detail are not one part of the work, they are all of it. She is drawn to the technically difficult ones: the joints that shouldn't hold, the piece that should not be able to stand.

She founded Studio Kresal in 2022. In 2023 she also took over the running of the family glass company, Steklarstvo Kresal.

Glass has never not been in her life. Her father has worked in the glass industry for over thirty years, and the workshop was where she learned that this material is not simply hard and clear — that it moves, that it lies about its own weight, and that it will punish carelessness. Through the studio, she works to give glass design the standing she believes it deserves.

The mark

Not decoration.

The studio's mark is a fluid, irregular form.

The physical structure of glass is closer to the molecular structure of a liquid than to the crystalline structure of a solid. Glass is, in a real sense, still moving. The mark is drawn to say so — and to refuse, from the beginning, to fence the studio into a single discipline.
